a full review of glossier

Glossier is one of my favourite brands of all time so it's only fitting that I do a full brand review of everything I've tried from them. I remember counting down the days til I could order their products back in 2017 and I think I even placed two orders that day! Shortly after that I visited their og New York showroom and it was an aesthetic dream come true for me haha. I've really liked seeing them grow over the years and am always excited to see what they'll launch next because their launches always seem very planned out and thoughtful. I was really happy to see them announce a grant to help support and grow Black-owned businesses this summer because I think it's an amazing and very necessary initiative!

I'm very excited to announce that I'm now a Glossier affiliate! I'm so excited to join their program and if you choose to shop with me you can get 10% off your purchase and free shipping over $30 usd or $40 cad!

I don't have every single Glossier product but I do have a pretty good collection so I'm gonna go through everything I've tried starting with skincare!

S K I N C A R E

I think this may be my favourite cleanser of all times (if not, top 2) and one of my favourite Glossier products. It's simple, gentle and effective. I love using this as my second cleanse or morning cleanse because it doesn't leave my skin feeling stripped at all but also isn't too hydrating for my normal-oily skin. A great skincare routine staple and I've gone through countless bottles!

If you're looking for a makeup remover that gets everything off, this is it. I usually use my Bioderma Micellar Water to take off my eye makeup but if I'm wearing a stronger mascara or eyeliner Milky Oil is an essential! This is something that I'll definitely continue to repurchase.

I actually am a big fan of the original Priming Moisturizer! I like to use this as my morning moisturizer in the winter because I find it's the perfect amount of hydration for my skin type! It also wears so nicely under makeup, never pills and I like that it's unscented! There's definitely a lot of less expensive moisturizers out there that do the same thing but I definitely might repurchase this one in the future!

This is Glossier's newest product so I've only tested it for a couple weeks but so far so good! It's a gel-cream so perfect for the summertime or oily skin types! I like that it has a pump and the texture feels really nice on the skin! I think the price tag is a little high for a moisturizer but if you have some extra cash to treat yourself this is pretty nice. Otherwise the Versed Dew Point Gel-Cream is pretty similar and only $14.99.

I think this is my first miss from Glossier. I used to like this when it first came out a couple years ago but I couldn't tell you if it worked back then cause my skin was pretty bad. I started using it last month just to finish it up and it definitely broke me out. Not sure if it's because it's expired or because the product doesn't work for my skin but either way I won't be repurchasing cause there are a lot of chemical exfoliators that work way better for my skin.

I usually tend to stick to brightening eye creams so I wish that Bubblewrap had some kind of brightening ingredient but it is a veryyy nice eye cream! It's super gentle, never irritates my eyes and leaves my under eyes hydrated and plump lol. It works perfect under makeup and I love that you can also use it on your lips! It's my go-to daytime eye cream currently!

I bought this with very low expectations because of the overwhelmingly negative reviews and sadly it didn't end up working for me. It's just way too irritating and strong for my skin and I don't normally have sensitive or reactive skin. Firstly I'm not a fan of the applicator cause it took forever for it to twist up which makes me think there isn't a lot of product in it. I was really careful when applying this to only get it on the breakout but I still ended up with red circles of irritation around the spots. I also didn't notice it shrinking or helping my breakouts at all. Definitely a pass for me and I hope they reformulate in the future.

My favourite face mask! I love this stuff because it helps to calm any breakouts I'm having but it isn't drying at all! A lot of clay masks tend to be too drying for my skin but this one never dries out my skin!  Perfect detox mask and a definite repurchase!

I was so excited when I saw this was launching because I love glowy dewy skin! Sadly this didn't end up working for me cause it caused breakouts and clogged pores wherever I applied it. I know a lot of people love this one and I did love the way it looked under makeup, my skin just didn't agree with it. I might give this another try in the future cause I really want to be able to use it but I'm also scared of the breakouts.

A Glossier cult classic and a favourite of mine! I really love these lip balms cause they come in so many cute scents and they're hydrating! In order of favourites mine are coconut, berry, birthday cake, mango, rose, mint and cherry. A lot of people say these are just overpriced tubes of vaseline which may be true but I still love them haha. They last a long time and I will definitely be repurchasing coconut, berry, birthday cake and mango when I run out.

There are a few skincare products that I haven't tried so I thought I'd talk about why I haven't purchased each of them. Priming Moisturizer Rich seems a little expensive for a moisturizer ($43) and I'm scared this might be too rich for my skin and break me out. I would love to try Invisible Shield because it sounds amazing and so many people love it but it's not available in Canada sadly. I've been really torn about The Supers because I would love to try them out but they're very expensive for basic serums when I can get almost the same thing from The Ordinary for a third of the price. The Soothing Face Mist is another product that I'm interested in trying but mists aren't really an essential in my skincare routine and $18 seems a little high. The last skincare product that I haven't tried is the Moisturizing Moon Mask and that's because I don't tend to have dry skin so I haven't really had a need for this. I might pick it up eventually to use in the winter time cause I've heard amazing things and I love their detox mask!

M A K E U P

I have mixed feelings about Generation G tbh. I really like the shades because I think they're pretty unique but I'm not really a matte lipstick fan. The formula is a bit drying and definitely needs a lip balm underneath or lip gloss over top to feel comfortable. Jam and Leo are my favourite shades although I definitely need to remember to wear them more often!

Glossier lip gloss is the glossiest lip gloss I've ever tried I think! (How many times did I just say gloss in that sentence lol). Even though they market the gloss as not being sticky it definitely is sticky and isn't something you should wear on a windy day. I can look past the stickiness because of how gorgeous all three shades look on the lips! I honestly recommend all three because they're gorgeous!

Lidstar $22

Lidstar is definitely one of my favourite Glossier products and super underrated in my opinion! It's so easy to apply and blend out and it comes in such cute shades! I think this is a great product if you're a beginner at makeup because it's what got me into wearing eyeshadow! Slip is my most worn shade but I also love cub and lily! I really hope they add more shades some day and I'd love to see a baby blue!

Skywash $22

I had high hopes for this product because I love Lidstar so much but sadly it was a miss for me. I originally got the shades pebble and pool  but ending up exchanging them because pebble didn't show up on my skin tone and pool applied super patchy. I exchanged them for the shades Terra and Valley which performed way better but I'm not a big fan of the shades on me. Valley was also a lot more orange than I was expecting. They're just a lot darker than what I'm used to wearing so not really my thing.

A really great everyday mascara! This definitely doesn't give the most volume or definition but it's great for simple makeup looks! I also really appreciate that this is easy to take off cause taking off mascara is one of my least favourite things to do. I would love to see them come out with a Lash Slick 2.0 with a little more volume for nighttime.

Boy Brow, aka the product that made Glossier famous. I originally got this in the shade brown and quickly realized my mistake. My brows are already super dark, thick and full so I really don't need a brow product to make my brows even darker. I only ever use a clear brow gel to keep my brows in place so I ordered this in clear the other day so I can retry it. I've been using my boy brow in brown as a lower lash mascara so I don't waste it and it works really well!

Another superior Glossier product that deserves all the hype it gets! Cloud Paint started my blush obsession and I'm very glad for it! The shades are beautiful and it's so easy to blend out! They also work great as eyeshadows! My favourites in order are puff, dusk, beam, storm and haze. Perfect alone or mixed together for a custom shade and they work so well for that faux sunburnt look.

I have a love hate relationship with Skin Tint. I love it when my skin is doing good and not breaking out but it's useless when I have breakouts because of how sheer the coverage is. The reason I love this when my skin is doing good is because it just helps even everything out and gives a glowy, dewy skin-like finish. It looks super natural and never cakey or heavy.

I LOVE Stretch Concealer! Usually I don't get excited about completion products but this stuff is amazing! I would say it has medium coverage and is super creamy so it gives a skin-like finish. This is the only concealer I use now because it works so well for me.

Wowder $27

I had never really used a powder before Wowder and I'm really glad I picked it up because I discovered that I like to use powder in my makeup routine sometimes haha. It helps to set everything and keep it in place. It also helps to cut down on shine and blurs the pores a bit. This is a little tinted but it blends so well into my skin that I don't notice the tint at all.

I went through a phase where I wasn't a huge Haloscope fan but now I'm back to loving it! I have the shade quartz and it just looks so natural on the skin and gives the prettiest dewy finish! I don't swipe this directly on the skin but use my fingers instead to apply it which works really well! I use it on the tops of my cheekbones, inner corner of my eyes, and on my cupids bow.

I feel like I've tried a lot more Glossier makeup than skincare as there are only two makeup items I haven't tried. As I mentioned before, my brows are already very thick, dark and full so I really don't have any use for Brow Flick. I'm not a huge eyeliner fan (I went through that phase in high school lol) which is why I haven't picked up Pro Tip. I would be interested in trying it out though if they came out with some fun shades like with Colorslide.

G L O S S I E R  P L A Y

I think Glossier Play was Glossier's most disappointing launch, not because the products aren't good but because they hyped it up so much that it wasn't as exciting as everyone expected. I don't think they needed to create a whole separate brand for these 4 products and there were a lot of aspects of it that let a lot of people down, the first being the wasteful packaging. Each Glossier Play product came wrapped in plastic packaging and then was put into a box. Unnecessary, wasteful and it didn't add anything to the experience at all in my opinion. The other let down was the use of non-biodegradable glitter in the Glitter Gelée. I feel like there are enough biodegradable glitters out there that Glossier easily could have used to make these but I think they just assumed people wouldn't care and were very wrong about that decision. I'm glad they chose to discontinue it after they realized they couldn't reformulate even though I do like the product.

Glitter Gelée (discontinued)

Even though they removed this product from their collection I thought it might be useful to review it in case they ever bring back a new and improved version. I got the shade Firewalk because it seemed the most wearable out of the four shades and I actually really like it! It has a mix of small copper glitters and larger holographic glitters in a copper gel. It is a little hard to work with because the glitter likes to spread out, but if you work at it and use a tool like their liner brush it can look really good, especially as a glitter liner. It can be hard to remove because it's glitter and I have to be really cautious about not to get it in my eye or in my sink but Milky Oil really helps.

This is a gorgeous lip product! It can be worn sheer or built up to an opaque glossy finish. I originally got the shade Pony in the Playground set because it looked the most wearable and it's perfect! Such a good nude! I got Blow-Up more recently cause I love the formula and wanted a fun shade. It's a super pretty pink but still wearable! Definitely an underrated Glossier product and worth trying out!

I think Colorslide is the most popular Glossier Play product because I've seen so many fun eye looks created with it and they also recently added some new shades (and also took some away). I originally got the shade Candyland because it looked like it would work well with the eye looks I like to do. I'm not an eyeliner person at all but I still find this easy to work with and very wearable. I also like that has some shimmer in it. I just picked up their newest shade Fuzz Club which is a baby blue and I can't wait to try it out!

Niteshine was definitely the product that most people skipped because we already have a million highlighters or liquid highlights in our collection. I do actually like this one a lot and go through periods where I prefer it over Haloscope. I have the shade Platinum Rose and it's pretty and easy to blend out. The applicator is so good and well thought out! Definitely not a must have product but I don't regret getting it.

Hand Cream  $22

I don't usually splurge on body care products but Glossier's are worth it in my opinion. This is hydrating but don't leave any sticky or greasy residue and it smells incredible! The scent is supposed to be Glossier You reimagined which I can definitely see (or smell lol). It's definitely a lot fresher and less musky which I actually prefer to the original Glossier You. And the packaging is adorable and very practical!

I tend to go through phases where I either love Glossier You or prefer other fragrances. I tend to wear this more in the fall or winter cause it's a very musk heavy, warm and peppery fragrance that just feels more fitting for colder weather. I like that it's meant to adapt to each person's skin chemistry to smell unique on everyone. Not my go-to fragrance but I like having it in my collection!

Glossier does body care so well! This is one of the best body washes I've ever used and one of the only that I don't feel bad about splurging on! It smells amazing and has an orange blossom neroli scent that some people hate but I'm obsessed with! The formula is an oil that turns frothy when mixed with water and it just makes the skin feel so soft and never greasy! A must-have for me!

This cream is just as good as the body wash! They have the same scent which I love and this just feels so hydrating on the skin! It's a very thick cream but not sticky. I also like that it has a little bit of shimmer (not glitter!) in it cause it looks really pretty in the summertime!

The iconic pink Glossier hoodie that everyone including Timothée Chalamet owns! I only bought this after I saw him wearing it so good marketing on Glossier's part. To be honest, this sweater fits very weirdly. It's abnormally long torso wise so I kind of have to roll up the bottom to keep it looking normal which I don't love but other than that if fits perfectly. I recommend getting your normal size as sizing up may be a bit too oversized. It is super soft and cozy though and who doesn't love a pink sweater?

And that's every Glossier product that I've tried over the years! I hope this was helpful whether you're new to Glossier or are just looking to expand your collection with something new! I'll try to keep this updated as they release new products because their launches are always exciting! Xx
