a look at chemical exfoliators

Before Glossier announced they were releasing a chemical exfoliator I had never really thought about trying one, and although I had heard about them in passing, I didn't really know how they worked. Basically from what I've read, they help to remove dead skin cells in a way that physical exfoliators can't and are less harmful to the skin than using a scrub.

For the past 2 months I tried out two different chemical exfoliators so here are my thoughts on them!

Glossier Solution

For the first month I used Glossier's Solution every night for four weeks. I have oily skin and from what I've heard from others if your skin is on the sensitive or dry side you should steer clear of Solution because many people have had negative reactions to it. I personally loved the way my skin looked and felt after using it!

Pros:

-reduced breakouts
-smoothed and improved skin's texture
-reduced the look/size of pores
-reduced blackheads
-skin looked glowy

Cons:

-strong smell (almost like cleaner)
-many people have had bad reactions to it
-not a super noticeable reduction of acne scars
-don't love the pump on the bottle (I feel like 1 pump isn't enough and 2 is way to much, plus it can get messy)

Cost:

$29 cad and $24 usd

Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water

For the second month I used the Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water from Wishtrend once a night for four weeks. If you're someone who had a bad reaction to Glossier Solution or are scared to try it I think this is an amazing dupe! It's less intense than Solution but still delivers very similar results that I was really impressed with!

Pros:

-no irritation
-smoothed and improved skin's texture
-reduced the look/size of pores
-skin looked glowy
-no scent (a big plus if you hated the smell of Solution!)

Cons:

-wasn't as strong as Solution (which could be a good thing if you have sensitive skin!)
-didn't notice as big of a reduction in blackheads

Cost:

$29 cad and $22 usd
